Job description:

THE ROLE

We build the cloud platform behind connected home-energy hardware – heat pumps, EV charging stations, home batteries and other smart equipment. Devices report in, our services decide how that equipment should run against live electricity market prices and weather forecasts, and commands go back out.

We’re looking for an experienced Solution Architect to shape how all of that fits together. This is a hands-on architecture role: you’ll work with business analysts, software developers and the firmware team to turn business needs into scalable, reliable and maintainable technical solutions – and you’ll be close enough to the code to know whether your designs actually hold.

What you’d be architecting on

CORE: C# / .NET 8, ASP.NET Core, Microservices, BFF pattern, Clean architecture.

DATA: PostgreSQL, EF Core, Dapper, Timestream time-series, Redis, DynamoDB.

MESSAGING & REALTIME: RabbitMQ, gRPC / Protobuf, SignalR, Event-driven integration, Outbox pattern.

DEVICE PROTOCOLS: MQTT, OCPP EV charging, Modbus.

IDENTITY: OAuth2 / OIDC, Duende IdentityServer, Partner API clients.

AWS: EKS, IoT Core, Lambda, RDS, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, Timestream, S3, SQS, SES, ECR, CloudWatch.

INFRASTRUCTURE: Kubernetes, Docker, Kustomize, Terraform.

DELIVERY: Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, SonarCloud.

FRONTEND: React, TypeScript, Vite, MUI.

EXTERNAL FEEDS: Day-ahead electricity prices, Weather forecast APIs, Partner integrations.

We don’t expect fluency in all of it. Depth in cloud and backend architecture is what matters – OCPP, Modbus and the energy domain are learnable, and you’d have a firmware team to learn them with.

Requirements:

Essential:
Strong experience designing backend and cloud based architectures.
Solid understanding of distributed systems, integrations, APIs and modern architecture principles.
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms and cloud native architecture.
Experience with AWS, or another major cloud provider.
Good understanding of databases, messaging systems, microservices and asynchronous communication.
Familiarity with containers and orchestration — our services run on Kubernetes.
The ability to see the bigger technical picture while staying comfortable discussing implementation details with engineers.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, including with non-technical stakeholders.
A solution-oriented mindset and the judgement to make pragmatic architectural decisions.

A strong advantage:
IoT, connected devices, energy technology, or hardware-integrated software systems.
Experience bridging firmware and cloud teams, where both sides constrain the design.
Time-series data and telemetry at scale.
Identity and access architecture – OAuth2 / OIDC across multiple client types.
Designing partner-facing or public APIs.
Working on an established platform and evolving it, rather than starting from scratch.

WHY THIS ROLE?

It’s more than traditional web applications.

A heat pump speaks Modbus to firmware that speaks MQTT to AWS IoT Core. An EV charger opens a WebSocket and starts talking OCPP. A scheduled job pulls tomorrow’s day-ahead electricity prices and a weather forecast, and works out how equipment should run overnight. Telemetry lands in a time-series store, device state in key-value, business data in PostgreSQL – and someone has to keep deciding which is which, and why.

You’ll help define how cloud software, backend services, integrations and physical devices behave as one ecosystem – with the ownership to actually decide it.

The role carries broad technical ownership across products that combine cloud, IoT, software and hardware. It’s a small enough engineering organisation that your architectural decisions stick, and a mature enough platform that those decisions matter from day one.

Monthly Salary:

€6000 - €7000 gross
