“What do you get when you compare yourself to the average? You become average.” That was the challenge from Vytenis Sidlauskas, a partner at Alliance for Recruitment, during a panel discussion at the Foreign Investors Annual Summit 2026 in Vilnius, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania.

The question on the table: what needs to happen next to make Lithuania more competitive for global investment? Ahead of the summit, Vytenis had framed the shift this way: “Fifteen years ago, investors chose Lithuania because we were cheap and hardworking. Today we can no longer compete on price alone.”

His answer to how Lithuania can become the No. 1 destination for investors is to aim higher, fulfil the ambition by picking one promise and making it real. “What if we said we are on the path to becoming number one in education in Europe? That sells and lands completely differently.”

The panel discussion moderated by Vilius Bernatonis, Managing Partner at TEGOS Legal, brought together perspectives from government, energy, finance, technology and industry on how to strengthen Lithuania’s competitive edge. Vytenis shared the stage with Paulius Petrauskas, Vice-Minister of Ekonomikos ir inovacijų ministerija; Šarūnas Šuipis, Senior EVP and General Manager at The Citco Group Limited; Monika Tarvydytė, CEO at IVABALTĖ; and Atle Wøllo, CEO of Kongsberg NanoAvionics.

If Lithuania could be known worldwide for one thing that makes global companies invest here, what should it be?
